Karen Colleen Smerdon, 61, of Wheeler, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center – Midland.  Karen was born on March 9, 1956 in Midland, Michigan the daughter of Francis Raymond and Louise Maude (Fitch).  Karen was a resident of the Central Michigan area all of her life.  She worked as a secretary for Brookwood Apartments many years ago and also for WalMart.

       Karen was a former member of the St. Louis Moose Lodge for many years.  She enjoyed camping, fishing, horseback riding and watching her children grow up.

       Surviving Karen are her two children: her daughter Tianna Faye Smerdon and her boyfriend Austin Watters; her son Ethan Mitchell Smerdon, all of Mt. Pleasant; a granddaughter, Haven Marie Smerdon.  Also surviving is a brother Larry Raymond (Paula) Smerdon of Sanford, Michigan and four sisters:  Denise Marie (Michael) Rooker of Fairview, Michigan, Marilyn Sue McConnell of Milan, Michigan, Barbara Jane (Bud) Johnson of Sanford and Christine Joy Thornton of Harrison.  Karen was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Diane Louise Espinoza.

       A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will be held from Rowley Funeral Home on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Connie Bongard officiating.  Friends and family will gather at the funeral from 9:30 – 11 a.m.  Interment of the cremated remains will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan.  Friends have been asked to consider The American Heart Association or the Arthritis Association for memorial contributions.  Envelopes are available at the funeral Home.
